Last weekend, I just finished reading a book called The Diary of a Young Girl. Its author is a German girl, Anne Frank—maybe some of you guys have already heard of her. Anne was born in a Jewish family in 1929 and died in 1945, three months before her sixteenth birthday. It was during the Second World War when Anne was thirteen, to avoid being caught by Nazis, that Anne and her family had to hide themselves in the secret annexe1) of a building, where she wrote down her tearful story.
As you can imagine, everything around her was terribly scary—gunshots, death, hunger, violence and terror. What a horrible life they had! After hiding for two years, they were finally arrested and killed by Hitler2.
Anne's story reminds me, and all of us, that kids are usually the major victims of terror, since they are so young, so weak, and so innocent. Today what is on my mind is not only the terror of war, but all kinds of terrible things children may have to deal with.
Kids are terrified, of course, when wars, terrorist attacks or other kinds of violence happen around them.
But kids are also terrified when adults shout at them for some small mistakes they make.
Kids are terrified when family violence occurs, or parents quarrel with each other over some God knows what3) silly matter.
Kids are terrified when TV shows are bloody and violent.
Kids are terrified to death when their teacher declares seriously that there will be a "very, very" important examination, and that will be their last chance to survive the class.
Kids are terrified even when Dad or Mom doesn't say a word to them for the whole night after receiving their school report. www.ryedu.net

Is this the life children themselves really want? Or is this the life people (I mean adult people) think children deserve?
I remember Bertrand Russell, the great British writer, once said, "Fear is one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom."
A childhood full of fear and terror is dark and miserable. A child who lives in a world of high pressure, worries, violence, fear and terror, will become passive and inactive, uncreative and unimaginative. Even worse, when they grow up, their mind may be full of doubts, despair or even hate, instead of self-confidence, hope and love.
If we human beings don't have a sound4) and peaceful heart, how can we have a sound and peaceful world? If we children cannot have a happy childhood, how can we have a better world in the future?
So let the world be safe for children. Let children be free from terror.

She could not get close to nature, can not be friends like before play. In the shadow of the shadow of death, Anne only keep a diary to get through tough every day. For her, the diary as her friends, her only friends can rely on and talk. She wrote in her diary a lot, there are silent on the racial discrimination complaint, more of the outside world, the natural yearning for thinking about life.
After reading the "Diary of Anne Frank", my heart is very heavy. Nazi racial discrimination, maiming and killing innocent pretty much the same as Anne's children. War is always nasty, it makes human experience is a market catastrophe.

Not long ago I just read the English version of "Diary of Anne Frank." In fact, this is not the first time I read this book. When I first read it in elementary school, and read the Chinese version. Then still small, still can not read, that means nothing. Now it seems there feeling very deeply.
